Our Hydra beaches
Are also
yours to enjoy!
Make the most of our island's unique sea location
There are only three ways to reach the beaches of Hydra: on foot, by donkey/mule, or by boat. However, regardless of the transportation method, the only way to truly experience them is with your heart!
From the enchanting crystal blue waters of Spilia Beach, which is just a 4-minute walk from Hotel Sophia, to the charming pine trees and fine pebbles of Agios Nikolaos, the beaches of Hydra await your exploration and will surely capture your heart.
Spilia – Hydronetta - Avlaki.
Beaches that take your breath away within breathing distance.
After a restful and enjoyable sleep in our rooms, start your excursion to the 3 nearest beaches to the west. It only takes a short 4-minute walk towards the village of Kamini to reach the first beach, Spilia.
As you arrive, you’ll be struck by the clear, inviting waters of the Argosaronic Sea, beckoning you to take a dive from the rocky slabs of the beach. Some of the rocks have been covered with cement, providing space for sunbathing. There are also refreshments available, but be cautious as the beach directly enters deep waters, requiring the supervision of children.
But don’t linger too long at Spilia, as the next beach, Hydronetta, awaits. Located in one of Hydra’s most picturesque areas, this “sister” beach of Spilia also boasts sunbathing platforms and a bar for coffee and drinks. Try not to miss the magical sunset from Hydronetta.
The trilogy of nearby and special beaches is completed by Avlaki, a small pebbly beach with crystal clear, turquoise waters. To get there, simply descend the steps after Hydronetta. Like the others, this beach has shaped concrete platforms for laying out your towel. Avlaki offers a magnificent sight when lit up at night.
Kamini.
Dive into the sea… and seafood!
If you continue along the coastal road to the west, just five minutes after passing Spilia, Hydronetta and Avlaki, you’ll come across the charming port of Kamini. The port is brimming with fishing boats and is situated next to the lovely and well-organized pebble beach, Mikro Kamini, which is perfect for families.
The beach’s location is incredibly tranquil, and the stunning views of the Argosaronic Sea are sure to captivate you. Once you’ve had your fill of swimming, be sure to indulge in some delicious seafood dishes at one of the seaside taverns in the area.
Vlychos & Vlychos Plakes.
Idyllic beaches.
Idyllic experiences.
Located approximately 2 kilometers away from Hotel Sophia (a 40-minute walk or a 10-minute water taxi ride), lies one of the most stunning beaches not just in Hydra, but in all of Europe – Vlychos Beach. Praised by travel editors from top international portals, this beach is simply idyllic.
With crystal clear turquoise waters, magnificent views, charming white houses with blooming courtyards filled with flowers and basil and beautiful seaside churches, the setting of Vlychos beach is an experience not to be missed.
Just beyond the port of Vlychos and a 15-minute walk away, you’ll discover the coastal settlement of Vlychos Plakes. Here, you’ll find another fully organized and wonderful beach, complete with the same crystal-clear blue-green waters found at Vlychos.
Agios Nikolaos
A beach worth getting to.
Agios Nikolaos, situated on the southwestern tip of the island, is relatively distant compared to other beaches of Hydra. However, once you arrive at its deep blue waters, you’ll realize that every minute of the journey was well worth it.
The beach boasts fine pebbles and transparent crystal waters. Just a short distance away from the shore, you’ll find pine trees providing shade and coolness. As you look up, you’ll spot the whitewashed church of Agios Nikolaos, which appears to be keeping watch and protecting you.
Bisti
The jewel of south.
Bisti beach is located in the same name southernmost bay of Hydra (at a distance of 15 minutes by water taxi from the port) and immediately impresses the visitor with its natural beauty. Surrounded by a lush pine forest and rocks perfect for long dives and water games, Bisti beach is truly an idyllic spot.
The beach’s bottom is abundant with marine life, making it the ideal spot for snorkeling. However, what sets Bisti apart is the overwhelming sense of tranquility and relaxation that engulfs visitors at every moment. The beach is fully organized with a refreshment stand and the option to rent canoes, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in this peaceful paradise.
Mandraki
As cosmopolitan as Hydra.
If you are seeking a cosmopolitan and sandy beach experience, don’t leave Hydra without visiting Mandraki!
In contrast to the majority of the island’s beaches, which are situated west and south of the Hydra town, Mandraki can be accessed via a 20-minute walk along the coastal road to the east (on your way, you will greet the iconic golden sun sculpture, Jeff Koons’ “Apollo Windspinner”, now a permanent exhibit in Hydra).
Mandraki is Hydra’s only fully sandy beach, with gorgeous sand and full organization, complete with changing rooms and showers for visitors. With its cosmopolitan vibe, it serves as a gathering spot for water sports enthusiasts, offering opportunities for windsurfing and water skiing.
